Jagadguru

"Happy Krishnashtami"

"Yes. But you know, I am not a great fan"

"Why not? Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum. He is the Guru of the Universe"

"Well, they say so. But the way he helped Pandavas win the Bharata war is not fair"

"Why? He was only protecting Dharma"

"Maybe. But Duryodhana was a good king for his people. It was just his cousins he was jealous of. In a fair war, with no support from Krishna, it definitely feels like Kauravas would have won. The way Bhishma, Drona, Karna, Saindhava, Duryodhana, Bhagadatta etc. were killed, it is bad and unfair"

"Ok. Let us see. You have read Gita, I presume"

"Yes, I did"

"In chapter 11, sloka 34 Krishna told Arjuna that 'Drona, Karna, Bhishma, Jayadratha and other heroes have already been killed by me. You just fight the rest'. What do you understand by that, considering Gita happened before the war?"

"Interesting. Never thought about it"

"It means that Krishna, as the Lord of the Universe and the enforcer of Dharma, already destined those great warriors to die. They were Dharmic souls yet on the wrong side of Dharma. Arjuna was only to be an intermediary. It is not about Good or Bad. It is about Dharma and Adharma. Being Good does not necessarily mean following Dharma. Good/bad is societal and constitutional. Dharma is natural law considering the survival and progress of the whole ecosystem, not just human race"

"Hmmm.. still not convinced. Pandavas have benefitted a lot by Krishnas presence. I'd say"

"Ok. Let us see. How many sons of Gandhari survived? None right?"

"Yes indeed. That was unfair too"

"How many sons of Draupadi do you think survived? Zero. Gandharis brother died. So did Draupadis. Sons of Arjuna and Bhima died. So essentially Dhritarashtra and Pandavas both were left with no immediate progeny. Krishna could have very well prevented the killing of Abhimanyu, Upa-pandavas and Drishtadyumna. Yet he did not. Why do you think he left all the survivors without any progeny?"

"Never thought about it"

"That is why He is the greatest Guru. Ways of Karma are intriguing. He says so in Gita. Maybe Draupadi and Pandavas had much bad Karma to pay for - including their insulting Duryodhana, indiscretion in addiction to gambling etc. Maybe they needed to suffer too. So Krishna used Ashwatthama as a tool, just like Arjuna was a tool, to punish Pandavas. And He only stopped Ashwatthama when he tried to kill the unborn grandchild of Arjuna"

"Never realized all this. Krishna indeed had His mysterious ways"

"He is the ultimate Guru. He is the consciousness of all. Time did not exist for Him. That's why he says he already killed those who were still alive. He is orchestrator of this entire universe and the designer of what we call luck or accident in our helplessness. Trust Him. Find Him. He is accessible. Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum"

"Indeed! Happy Srikrishna Janmashtami"
